Farid Al Atrache was born in Jebel Ed-Druz, Southern Syria in 1915. His parents were Prince Fahad Al Atrache and Princess Alia. In 1923, Prince Fahad and the Al Atrache clan were fighting against the French occupation of their land and as a result, Princess Alia had to flee to Egypt with her three young children Fouad, Farid and Amal. Their journey was diffcult where they travelled from Beirut through Palestine and finally Egypt without any personal documents. The Egyptian government granted them permission to stay, and the family settled at one of Cairo's popular districts where they lived in a one room flat after being accustomed to living in luxurious palaces. The mother had to work as a singer at private parties, and weddings in order to support her children who also took jobs while they went to school. Farid and his young sister Amal were interested in their mother's love of music, so she encouraged them to sing and taught her son how to play the oud. In their early youths, Farid and Amal (who later became Asmahane), began to draw the attention of composers and song writers who were amazed by their musical talents and beautiful voices, and eventually the duo were singing at radio stations and in front of wide audiences. The cinema was also the gateway to success and glory for Farid and Asmahane as they starred in two films. Once again tragedy struck Farid, his sister Asmahane was killed in a car accident and there were rumors that she was involved with the British intelligence.
Farid continued to sing and compose until one day he met Samia Gamal, a lovely belly dancer who captured his heart, and together they created a duo starring in several musical films from the late 1940s and the early 1950s. However, their relationship didn't last because Samia married an American man who embraced Islam and they both travelled to the U.S, and again Farid was lonely and sad but he still loved Samia. His next films and songs contained feelings of love and anguish in addition to patriotism. He spent his last years in Lebanon while he made frequent visits to Egypt, Arab countries and Europe. He died in Beirut on December 26, 1974 and that was before attending the premiere of his last film with actress Mervat Amin "Nagahm fi Hayati".- Director

Born in Tripoli in 1927, Georges Nasser studied cinema at UCLA in Hollywood and returned to his native country with the firm determination to make films in an environment where the industry was non-existent. In 1957 he directed Ila Ayn (Towards the Unknown), which became the first film to represent Lebanon in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Nasser repeated the same remarkable feat with The Little Stranger, also selected at Cannes in 1962. A period of relentlessness and disillusionment followed. In 1975, Nasser shot his third film "Al Matloub Rajol Wahed" (A Man is Needed) in Syria. Although the film's future looked promising, the eruption of the Lebanese civil war put an end to its career. Unlike the new wave of young Lebanese filmmakers who filmed the war, such as Maroun Baghdadi, Borhane Alaouie, Jocelyne Saab, Randa Chahal and Jean Chamoun, Nasser did not follow suit. Nevertheless, at no point did he consider leaving the country. He worked as a production manager on a few foreign films, such as Volker Schlöndorff's Circle of Deceit, and continued to write and seek funding opportunities for his screenplays. Unfortunately, time passed and money did not arrive. Nasser began to fight on another front: the creation of a Lebanese union of film technicians, another attempt that proved unsuccessful because of the incompetence of the state and the ministries concerned. Nasser finally found a satisfactory vocation as a teacher at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA). He educates new generations in the art of making films. At the age of 89, he still has not retired, and his eyes shine when he talks about his great love of cinema.- Dick Baldwin was born on 9 January 1911 in Santiam, Oregon, USA. Sharff. He died on 12 May 2003 in Lebanon, New Hampshire, USA.- Kamal Jumblatt was born in a significant prestige in the Druze community. His father, Fouad Joumblatt, was assassinated on August 6, 1921. After his father's death, his mother, Nazira, took over. She will play an important political role in the country.
In 1926, Kamal Jumblatt entered a Christian school where he completed his elementary studies in 1928. In high school, he studied French, Arabic, science and literature. He graduated from this high school in 1936. He obtained a diploma in philosophy a year later, in 1937. He then left for Paris where he joined the faculty of arts at the Sorbonne. He also studies psychology, civics and sociology.
He returned to Lebanon in 1939, where he continued his studies at Saint-Joseph University in Beirut. He obtained a law degree there in 1945. He married May 1, 1948 with May Arslan (died in 2013), daughter of the Druze emir Chekib Arslan. They will have only one son, Walid Jumblatt.
Kamal Jumblatt, pacifist leader, fighting for democracy, socialism with a human face and a secular Lebanon, still marks memories. Kamal Jumblatt was not destined for politics. The death of his cousin Hikmat naturally designated him as successor, representative of the family. Then, India has always fascinated a young man more inclined to meditate than to govern: he went there at the age of 26: one of the photos shows him plowing. From his time at the Ministry of Agriculture and Social Affairs in 1947 to the violent insurrection of 1958, Kamal Jumblatt asserted his charisma and quickly outlined his ambitions after the creation, in 1949, of the PSP (Progressive Socialist Party): unity of Arab countries, fight against the Lebanese oligarchy to establish real democracy. From 1958, the year of the start of the presidency of Fouad Chéhab, supported by Kamal Jumblatt and his party, to 1969, the date of the first riots with the Palestinians, the Druze politician was Minister of National Education then of the Interior , while tirelessly meeting with various foreign officials in order to initiate a dialogue of peace which he favored above all. He will no longer stop defending the Palestinian cause and admiring the Jordanian position in the conflict which pits the Feyadine against the Israeli army.
From 1970, conflict loomed and peaceful solutions became increasingly bogged down, as Kamal Jumblatt feared and predicted. He became considerably closer to the Soviet Union, which awarded him the Lenin medal in 1970 to honor his work in favor of peace. Indeed, the Druze leader never tires of meeting political and religious leaders from all sides, but cannot escape the war: in 1976, he reviewed part of the People's Liberation Army. A few months later, he was shot dead in his car, along with two of his companions. - Writer
